What periodontitis is and why it’s serious
Periodontitis is inflammation of the tissue around a tooth’s root. It’s usually caused by infection in the canals, reaching there through untreated decay or unresolved pulpitis. It can show up as pain when biting down, a feeling that the tooth has "grown taller," gum swelling and a fistula that drains pus — but sometimes it causes almost no pain at all. Left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and spread to nearby tissue.
Periodontitis treatment in Almaty at STATUS Dental Center is handled by our general dentists. The doctor examines the tooth, orders an X-ray to assess the area around the root, cleans the canals and fills them. Sometimes the canals are first treated with medication and closed with a temporary filling — the price list includes a temporary filling with calcium hydroxide. Pricing covers single-, two- and multi-canal teeth. If non-surgical treatment isn’t enough, the doctor may suggest a surgical option, such as root-tip resection.

Can a tooth with periodontitis be saved
Often, yes — if the canals can be cleaned and filled, and enough of the tooth remains for restoration. The sooner you come in, the better the chance of gentle treatment. Whether to treat the tooth, retreat it, remove part of a root, or extract the tooth entirely is decided by the doctor from the X-ray and exam.
