A single-tooth X-ray shows one tooth and the tissue around the root — used for root canal treatment and pain. A panoramic X-ray covers both jaws — used for treatment planning, checking wisdom teeth and the bite. CBCT gives a 3D image showing bone volume, root position, canals and jaw structures — important before implants and complex surgery.
The doctor decides whether a scan is needed and which type. If you have any concerns about safety — for example, if you’re pregnant — tell the doctor before the scan.
